Woven is a collaborative publication on an in-depth study of textiles. For this project I reached out to my family and asked for any unwanted fabric, textiles, or miscellaneous objects. I got an overwhelming amount of boxes sent to me and with that came the meaning behind my signature. I chose to research about the importance of relationships and connections; we are all parts of a whole. Like fabric, we are an assemblage of strands that contribute to the final product: our identity. With every piece I received, I thought about memories that I shared with those individuals and what I have learned from them. By using my family’s unwanted textiles, I was taking parts of their identity and adapting it to fit my own. This included naturally dyeing fabric and using biodegradable seed paper to display my interest in non-toxic alternatives in design.
