Boro - a japanese practice of reusing and repurposing textiles, became the driving force behind the installation called Mottainai. The garment industry is notorious for its large amount of consumer waste and the United States has one of the worst disposal methods of unwanted goods. This instillation and publication address child labor, pollution, waste, and over-consumption. I created a Boro textile using my own unwanted scraps sewn together in a raw and rugged way juxtaposing the perfect stitching necessary for factory workers in the garment industry. In reality, this quilt is a representation of the unfiltered garment industry, layered with rough edges and loose ends alluding to the notion that it is not as polished as it seems to be.
